Learners competently record their planned sound elements by:
a) setting up appropriate
equipment
b) following the audio script
c) following safe working
practices
d) following production
processes

A) Setting Up Appropriate Equipment

To record all of my sound assets - the sound effects, interview, dialogue, ambience etc. - I used a sound kit which consisted of a Tascam recorder, a directional microphone with a windshield, and XLR cables. I set the kit up by connecting the XLR cables into the microphone and Tascam, set the input level so that the noise was minimal but the sound recorded was clear as well as set the bit rate and hertz appropriately. I then mounted the microphone onto a tripod and pointed it towards the direction of the sound being recorded in order to reduce any sound of the movement of the mic.

B) Following the Audio Script

Original Script

Transcript

I followed my original script, for the most part, however, I did end up cutting and adding in some questions and segments.

Within my intro, I added a bit more detail on what the podcast is about in general. I had to cut some of the questions I had asked such as what connects rob to a film and the biggest mistake in student films due to time and them not being as relevant to the discussion. The biggest change I made was adding the segment with Ryd in order to make the podcast more well-rounded and offer a different perspective.

C) Following Safe Working Practices

During Pre-Production, I created relevant risk assessments and recces in order to assess any health and safety issues and put controls in place in order to avoid them.

When setting up equipment I made sure that any cables or tripods were kept out of the way of anyone walking so that they would not trip over them and hurt themselves or damage the equipment.

I recorded in a room that was not being used by any other teachers or students in the college so as not to disrupt any ongoing lessons as well as to improve the quality of the sound recorded as it would be more clear than recording in a room full of other people. I also made sure that I had permission to use the room beforehand.

Throughout the editing stage, I made sure that I had a chair that would support my posture in order to minimalise the chances of back and neck problems. I adjusted the chair and computer to further prevent this by having myself at the correct height to view the screen and rest my arms against the desk. I also took breaks to ensure that I was not overworking and exhausting myself.
